karen and her son rhuari |
Karen burton success story“Both Rhuari and I would like to thank DPHS(f) so much for all of their help and awareness raising on behalf of my son’s needs. I am now able to have peace of mind that Rhuari is able to access our garden safely and Rhuari is now able to play without restriction, on his much loved trampoline. With our new home, we now have increased ability to promote and expand my son’s development by being able to build on his independent living skills like never before” - Ms B
Ms B approached our service seeking independent housing information and advice at the point of seeking more suitable housing to fully meet the needs of her autistic son. The previous family home was a first floor flat and meant that her son was unable to access the communal garden area safely or unsupervised.
Ms B was assisted to review her housing options such as suitable property types and areas of choice to ensure her Fife Housing Register application for rehousing did accurately take all of her son’s needs into account. As a current Kingdom Housing Association tenant, DPHS(f) liased with the housing provider to ensure the most important factors were being considered when it came to suitable housing to meet the needs of a child with a lifelong developmental disability. The family were lucky enough to be offered a property which fully met their needs with a secluded garden. |
